Fountains have a rich history thousands of years long. The first fountains used gravity instead of pumps, and were sourced by aqueducts, springs, and rivers that started on higher ground. The pressure from the downward flow of the water was used to create fountains. All kinds of early peoples made fountains, and they had them for different reasons – for drinking, for beauty, for relaxation, for religious purposes. Some featured lions, while others were geometric in shape. They were used both indoors and outdoors in gardens. Many wealthy people used them ornamentally. Today we have both traditional and contemporary fountain styles.
