Have you ever decided something in your life was going to be a certain way and it seemed to become so? This is about the feeling that you had control over that something. Mind and body therapies are in constant conflict with conventional medicine; however new age is really in a new age these days.

Could mind and body have a relevant enough connection when it comes to controlling our health? There is strong evidence that this could be the case. Mind and body therapies can play a supportive role in treating various common medical afflictions. That is why your power of mind is an asset that you cannot forget about. Your subconscious mind is a big power.

These mind and body therapies are being used outside of the typical mental health arena. Studies are showing evidence that mind and body therapy can aid in the treatment of such clinical conditions as coronary artery disease, side effects from the treatment of cancer and post surgical rehabilitation. Some methods used in mind and body therapies include hypnotherapy, autogenic training, and relaxation therapy to name just a few.

Hypnotherapy in most cases is used to modify behavior related to bad habits; most notably smoking and eating. However as a mind and body therapy it is most effective in treating irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) when other treatments are ineffective. Recent studies in this area have researchers concluding that the use of hypnosis as a mind and body therapy in the clinical medicine area should be expanded. Hypnotherapy is also potentially effective in managing labor pain, reducing the need to use pain medication.

Autogenic training is essentially the power of your voice. You give your body a verbal command to relax and control your breathing. Typically this mind and body technique is used to relieve stress and anxiety and in some cases to treat the effects of fatigue or reduce insomnia. Clinically it is used to help treat gastritis, constipation, diarrhea, ulcers, high blood pressure and thyroid problems. Autogenic training is used under a doctor’s care and/or sometimes with the help of an instructor. Autogenic training as mind and body therapy is not and should not be used to replace conventional medical care.

Relaxation therapy is just one of the mind and body treatments used as complementary therapy for treating the side effects of cancer treatments. Relaxation therapy; or meditation; is particularly useful for reducing stress and nausea. Other complementary therapies include massage, music, art, acupuncture, reflexology, and fitness therapy.

These are just a few of the mind and body therapies making their way to the forefront of medical science. Mind and body therapy is not just a mental health treatment any longer. Mind and body therapy is becoming accepted and respected in the clinical medicine scientific community. It might be something you discuss with your doctor in the future in consideration for treatment of one kind or another. More than likely, mind and body therapy may be one of your treatments that help to bring about a positive outcome. It is really challenging and exciting to invest time and efforts into increasing brain power and the benefits that it can have.
