The Brooklyn Bridge is one of the most well known and iconic structures in New York City, easily as discernible as the Statue of Liberty and the Empire State Building. The bridge connects Brooklyn and Manhattan by spanning the East River. It is one of the oldest suspension bridges in the world – and it was the largest one in the world for several years. It is both a National Historic Landmark and a National Historic Engineering Landmark. Many use the bridge to commute for untold thousands of visitors and natives of the city, but it is also used for marathons, protests and more. quite a few people – up to about 5,000 a day – walk across the bridge. Another 2,500 or so cyclists cross the bridge on their bikes. You can get onto the pedestrian footpaths in Brooklyn as well as Manhattan. From the bridge, you can see quite a few incredible sights, such as the Governor’s Island, Ellis Island, and even the Statue of Liberty. It is a great place to take some photographs to commemorate your trip. Also located along the bridge are plaques that can give you details about the bridge and the city. The bridge is something you can’t miss.
